Step into a golden, savoury crunch with these Chicken Nori Rolls.
Juicy minced chicken is seasoned with oyster sauce, sesame oil, and garlic, then wrapped in umami-rich nori and coated in a light batter for the ultimate crisp bite. Each roll fries to perfection, crackly on the outside, tender within, and is finished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and salt. Served hot with sweet chilli sauce, they’re the kind of snack that disappears faster than you can fry the next batch.
Ingredients
For the chicken filling:
500g minced chicken or thigh meat
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
2 egg whites
3 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp sugar
1 clove garlic, minced
4–5 sheets nori
For the coating batter:
3 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp plain flour
100ml water
Oil for frying
1 tsp sesame seeds
Salt for sprinkling
Sweet chilli sauce (for dipping)
Instructions:
Step 1. Prepare the filling
In a mixing bowl, combine minced chicken, oyster sauce, sesame oil, salt, black pepper, egg whites, cornstarch, sugar, and garlic. Stir until smooth, then transfer to a piping or zip-lock bag for easier handling.
Step 2. Roll the nori
Lay one sheet of nori flat on your work surface. Pipe a line of chicken filling along one edge, roll tightly, and seal with a little water. Repeat with remaining nori sheets, then cut each roll into bite-size pieces with kitchen scissors.
Step 3. Make the coating batter
In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch, plain flour, and water until smooth.
Step 4. Fry until golden
Heat oil in a wok or deep pan over medium heat. Dip each piece in the coating batter, then fry seam-side down first, turning until all sides are golden and crisp (about 3–4 minutes per side). Drain briefly to remove excess oil.
Step 5. Garnish & serve
Arrange the rolls on a platter. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and salt, then serve immediately with sweet chilli sauce for dipping.
