Ingredients

  • 1kg chicken wings, tips removed
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Method

1. Prepare the wings

Preheat the oven to 200°C.

Line a baking tray with baking paper.

Pat the chicken wings dry with kitchen paper. Removing excess moisture helps the wings become crispier during baking.

2. Prepare the sauce

Add the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic powder, black pepper and red pepper flakes, if using, to a large bowl.

Mix well until combined.

3. Marinate the wings

Add the chicken wings to the bowl with the sauce.

Toss well until every wing is evenly coated.

For deeper flavour, leave the wings to marinate for 20–30 minutes before cooking.

4. Bake the wings

Arrange the wings in a single layer on the prepared baking tray.

Bake for 30–35 minutes, turning the wings halfway through cooking, until golden, crispy and fully cooked.

5. Make them extra crispy

For an extra-crispy finish, place the wings under the grill for a few minutes after baking.

Watch them closely to prevent the honey in the glaze from burning.

6. Serve

Transfer the wings to a serving plate and serve immediately.

They can be served with your favourite dipping sauce, such as ranch or blue cheese dressing.

Notes

  • For extra crispy wings: Pat the wings completely dry before adding the sauce and finish them briefly under the grill.
  • Adjust the heat: Add more or less red pepper flakes depending on your preferred level of spice.
  • For a stickier glaze: Increase the amount of honey in the sauce.
  • Don't overcrowd the tray: Leave space between the wings so they roast rather than steam.
  • Check the chicken: Make sure the wings are fully cooked before serving.
